Occasion of His Retirement After )
Sixteen and One-Half Years as )
A Jurist )
WHEREAS Judge Wilcox was appointed to the Superior Court by
former Governor Ronald Reagan on March 15, 1971 ; and
WHEREAS the People of Contra Costa County confirmed his
appointment in 1972 and re-elected Judge Wilcox in 1978 and 1984; and
WHEREAS Judge Wilcox was elected Presiding Judge by his fellow
judges on two occasions in 1974 and 1984; and
WHEREAS Judge Wilcox has served with distinction in all areas of
Superior Court operations including his work as the Grand Jury Judge
(1973-1974) and as a general trial judge for civil and criminal cases; and
WHEREAS Judge Wilcox has a legal career in Contra Costa County
spanning over 38 years, including City Attorney of El Cerrito and as a
partner in a private law firm (Tinning & DeLap) ; and
WHEREAS Judge Wilcox has been recognized as a sage, compassionate
and capable advisor for fellow jurists, attorneys and private citizens, has
conducted educational programs for the legal community, and was named
"Trial Judge of the Year" by the Alameda-Contra Costa Trial Lawyers'
Association (1979) ; and
WHEREAS Judge Wilcox has worked for volunteer, community, and
professional organizations, including the Salvation Army, Rotary Club,
Kiwanis Club, Big "C" Society, American Bar Association, California Judges'
Association, Boalt Hall Alumni Association, and Order of the Golden Bear,
among others; and
WHEREAS Judge Wilcox intends to assist the State's legal community
even after his retirement from the Contra Costa Bench in October 1987;
NOW THEREFORE IT IS RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of
Contra Costa County hereby CONGRATULATES Judge Max Wilcox, Jr. on the
occasion of his retirement as a jurist, and .EXTENDS to him and his wife of
43 years, Jeanne Marie, its best wishes for continued good health, happiness
and prosperity in the years to come.
PASSED on September 22, 1987 by unanimous vote of the Board
members present.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of
an order entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the date
aforesaid.
