FROM: Contra
Harry D. Cisterman, Personnel Director Costa
DATE: August 7, 1987 40 County
SUBJECT: Video Display Terminal Differential for Exempt Superior
Court Employees
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I . RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve a $40.00/month differential for exempt Superior Court
Employees utilizing video display terminals under the same terms
and conditions applied to members of AFSME local 2700 by Board
Resolution 87/417.
II . FINANCIAL IMPACT:
7 employees x $40./month x 12 months
x 27% benefit cost = $4,267/year.
III . REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION:
The Superior Court has legally, adopted personnel rules which
require exempt court employees to receive the same benefits as
regular county employees. On July 7, 1987 the Board of
Supervisors authorized a $40.00/month VDT differential for
applicable members of AFSME local 2700 effective May 1, 1987.
Regular County employees in the County Clerk's office, working in
the same building, with similar equipment and the same computer
system as Superior Court employees are receiving this benefit.
The Superior Court Administrator - Jury Commissioner has asked
that this benefit be approved for his staff under the same
conditions and rules applied to AFSME local 2700 members.
IV. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Non payment of this differential would result in unequal pay for
equal work and create an ongoing morale problem among affected
employees.
