MICHAEL WALFORD, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR DATE: August ,4, 198 " 'SUBJECT: Approve Contract Change Order No. 24 and Rescind Contract Change Order No. 7 for the Appian Way Widening Project. Project No. 0662-684177-83-, Pinole and El Sobrante Areas. Specific Requests or Recommendation(s) & Background Justification RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE Contract Change Order No. 24 and RESCIND Contract Change Order No. 7, resulting in a net increase of $22,004.00, and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director to execute it in order to compensate the contractor, Bay Cities Paving and Grading Company, for work resulting from design changes. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The project contingency funds are sufficient to cover the change order costs. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: The cumulative total of this and previous contract change orders exceeds $25,000, requiring Board approval . Design changes were necessitated by the actual field conditions, resulting in changed road and storm drain grades and associated work. Change in the method of payment requires this Contract Change Order. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The lack of approval would preclude the payment to the contractor for the work required for the successful completion of the contract.
