HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 07071987 - S.3 S:3 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the matter of Supporting) Resolution No. 87/406 West Contra Costa County' s ) Literacy Program ) WHEREAS, the business, education, political and community leaders of West Contra Costa County share a common commitment to reduce adult illiteracy in their local communities; and WHEREAS, the problem of illiteracy tears at the economic, political and social fabric of society; and WHEREAS, the Problems of illiteracy cannot be solved by any one group, individual or organization working independently; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, support the efforts of West Contra Costa County business, education, political and community leaders effort to take concerted steps to eradicate adult illiteracy in their communities, do hereby declare support for the following plan: I. The scheduling of a public forum in West Contra Costa County to identify local providers of adult literacy education and_ local resources available to address the problems II . The existence and strengthening of a coalition of business, community, political and educational leaders through Opportunity West to guide and support West Contra Costa County' s attack on adult illiteracy. III. The search for external resources by the Opportunity West coalition to assist in the eradication of the high rate of adult illiteracy in West Contra Costa County. PASSED AND ADOPTED on July 7, 1987, by unanimous vote of the Board members present. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a resolution entered in the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
