Request a status report on the performance evaluation of the current security service contract. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: I have received an increasing number of complaints regarding the security service being provided at the El Pueblo Housing Project. ' During our recent workshop on El Pueblo and when the subject of the security guard service was discussed, I understood that an evaluation was to be conducted on the performance of the current security contractor. How is this evaluation process going? What is the expected timeframe within which we might expect a report? In light of the recent complaints, I believe it would be important to brief the Board of Supervisors as soon as possible on the status of the situation. Tom Torlakson CCC District 5 300 E. Leland Pittsburg, CA 94565 Dear Supvr. Torlakson: We, the tenants of E1 Pueblo, are very concerned about the security in El Pueblo. Altho' we are considered the highest crime people in the area, we find there is no need for so much police protection. We presently have six (6) security guards and the Pittsburg Police Department patrolling every hour on the hour. Is this being done for the Housing Authority and the City of Pittsburg to obtain funds? I am also concerned about so many Chicanos working in dousing in advisory capacities. I was advised that fourteen (14) Blacks were laid off. Seventy- four percent (74%) of our Black people are unemployed and the establishment forces them to use other means of survival. There has always been a Black in the central office. Today there is not one': (1) and we feel this is unfair. I feel there is just cause for an investigation of the Housing Authority. Please look into these allegations. I'm sure you will do your best. Thanks for any consideration given. Respectfully, EL PUEBLO TENANT COUNCIL Dorothy Washington, Chairman Pete Davis, Advisory Committee PD/c
