FINANCIAL IMPACT There will be no direct financial costs to the County should this initiative pass, however, funds for parkland acquisition and developments would be provided for projects within our county. BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS The California Wildlife, Coastal and Parkland Conservation Act is an initiative measure which is proposed for the June, 1988 ballot. Signatures to place this measure on the ballot are being collected between June 15 and November 15, 1987. The initiative will provide $776 million to provide for additions to state, regional and local parks, as well as for wildlife habitat, coastal protection, historic preservation, trail and urban stream projects. ' Some specifics of the initiative which benefit this County are: $4 million for" expansion of Mt. Diablo State Park $4 million for enhancements of Franks Tract State Recreation Area $1. 5 million for expansion of Carquinez Shoreline Park CONTINUED ON ATTACHMENT: YES SIGNATURZE-:-LhQ.,. 4000 RECOMMENDATION OF COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR RECOMMENDAT O O COMMITTEE APPROVE OTHER SIGNATURE(S) : ACTION .OF BOARD ON July 21 , T987 APPROVED AS RECOMMENDED x OTHER x Authorize letters to be sent to this County' s legislative delegation indicating the Board ' s endorsement . The failure of the Legislature to approve a bond measure for the ballot makes proceeding via the initiative process a logical alternative. For this initiative to go before the voters, backers are attempting to gather 600, 000 signatures. Any encouragement the Board can give to have voters sign the initiative petitions would be desirable.
