AND COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR

BACKGROUND cont.
$25 million for acquisition of land for an East Bay Shoreline
State Park in either Alameda, Contra Costa, (or both) Counties
$10 million for the East Bay Regional Park District for parks
within their district (including Morgan Territory and Briones
Regional Parks)
With the rapidly growing population of this County there is a need
to acquire and develop additional recreational lands to keep pace
.. with that growth. The failure of the Legislature to approve a bond
measure for the ballot makes proceeding via the initiative process
a logical alternative. For this initiative to go before the
voters, backers are attempting to gather 600, 000 signatures. Any
encouragement the Board can give to have voters sign the initiative
petitions would be desirable.
