HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 07211987 - 1.24 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Recognizing Ted Winslow Upon His Retirement RESOLUTION NO. 87/435 from the Pleasant Hill Recreation and Park District WHEREAS Ted Winslow is recognized today for his thirty-six years of commitment and service to the City of Pleasant Hill; and WHEREAS Ted is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley in Business Administration, served in the Air Force in World War II and retired from the Air Force Reserves as a Colonel; and WHEREAS in 1951 he led the first fund-raising drive which raised $20,000 to make possible the purchase of Pleasant Hill Park, and in 1954 he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Pleasant Hill Recreation and Park District; and WHEREAS he was the driving force that led to the growth of the District from one park to twelve and resulted in the building of the Community Center facility, Senior Citizens Complex, and the Public Services Center; and WHEREAS he was responsible for helping develop a liability program which combined all of the recreation and park districts in California, thus preventing the closure of numerous recreation programs which would have been eliminated without the insurance; and WHEREAS there is perhaps no other Pleasant Hill citizen who has been as beneficial to the community for such an extended time `period, as demonstrated by his cooperation with such government agencies as the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, Diablo Valley College, the County of Contra Costa and the East Bay Regional Park District, and by serving as the President of the Pleasant Hill Lions Club twice, President of the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce, area Chairman for the United Crusade and President of the Contra Costa Association of Insurance Agents; and WHEREAS Ted's dedication and contributions will continue to be felt by the citizens of the community after his retirement, and the improvements he has made in the Pleasant Hill Recreation and Park District will continue to be enjoyed by the people and shall stand as a lasting monument to his commitment; NOW THEREFORE IT IS RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County that Ted Winslow is COMMENDED for his service to his County and his dedication to its citizens. PASSED on July 21, 1987 by unanimous vote of the Board members present. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of an order entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
