Spooner , Contracts Administrator C )sta DATE: July 24, 1986 C( J/ SUBJECT: Approval of Veterans Administration Contract #26-023-29 with ""' Veterans Administration Medical Center SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute on behalf of the County, Veterans Administration Contract #26-023-29 with Veterans Administration Medical Center effective August 1, 1986 . through July 30, 1987 with . a contract payment limit of $100,000, for the provision of nuclear medicine studies, specialized laboratory tests, and neurology consultation and EEG interpretation. II. FINANCIAL'IMPACT: The 12-month payment limit of the prior contract was $93,960. The payment limit of this new contract has been increased to $100,000 in order to maintain the same level of service at the Veterans. Administration's newly increased rates. The ser- vices provided under this contract are billable to patients and appropriate third party payors. III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND: For many years the County has maintained a contractual relationship with the Martinez Veterans Administration Medical Center which has provided specialized laboratory testing services, nuclear medicine therapy, and neurology services for County's patients at Merrithew Memorial Hospital. The Hospital does not have the resources , equipment, or personnel to provide these diagnostic and therapeutic ser- vices to its patients, and the fees charged by the Veterans Administration are substantially lower than any other medical facility in this area. This document has been approved by the Department's Contracts and Grants Administrator in accordance with the guidelines approved by the Board's Order of December 1, 1981 (Guidelines for, contract preparation and processing) Health Services Department) . The Board Chairman should sign five copies of the Agreement, four of which should then be returned to the Contracts and Grants Unit for submission to the Veterans Administration Medical Center.
