SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR REPORT ON TRACES OF HEAVY METALS
FOUND IN DUST BLOWING FROM CONSTRUCTION SITE
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMEMATION:
That Dan Bergman, Health Services Department, prepare a
report as soon as possible, on whether or not dust blowing
from a Hilltop construction site onto neighboring homes,
poses a potential health hazard to the local residents.
.BACKGROUND:
Small amounts of chromium, lead, nickel, zinc, copper and
cadmium have been detected by the Bay Area Air Quality
Management District in dust blowing from a construction site
in a windswept hill above a residential neighborhood.
The findings, according to BAAQMD, are to be turned over to
the state and county departments of health for further
testing.
The residents in Tara Hills, have complained about trouble
breathing and dust in their homes. Their fear is that the
toxic materials mixed in the dust may be harmful to their
health.
