August 6, 1986 C� 1 nty SUBJECT: Approval of Standard Agreement #29-208-30 with the State Department of Health Services (State 4686-89116) for the Immunization Assistance Project SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATIONS) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute on behalf of the County, Standard Agreement 4629-208-30 (State 4686-89116) with the State Department of Health Services in the amount of $37,760 for the period July 1, 1986 - June 30, 1987 for the Immunization Assistance Program. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Approval of this agreement by the State will result in $37,760' of State funding for Immunization Assistance Program. Sources of funding are as follows: $37,760 State Funding 17,886 County Personnel Costs 4,478 County In-kind (Fixed Overhead) $60,124 Total Program. The $22,364 of County costs for this State-mandated program are included in the FY 1986-87 Public Health Budget . The County received $37,044 of funding from the State for this program last fiscal year, plus $3,340 after the contract was amended as approved by the Board on February 11, 1986, for a total of $40,384 for FY 85-86. III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND: On May 131 1986, the Board authorized submission of an application to the State Department of Health Services for continuation during FY 1986-87 of the Immunization Assistance Program operated by the Public Health Division of the Health Services Department. The County maintains this program to make immuniza- tions available to all persons in need of this service in order to prevent the occurrence and transmission of childhood diseases . The program will continue to monitor the compliance of preschools, elementary and secondary schools in meeting State-mandated immunization requirements through inservice programs and limited technical assistance. Program staff also maintains an adverse reaction monitoring system and outbreak control team. This contract must be maintained in order for the County to continue to receive free vaccine from the State.
