RA INEY, Sheriff-Coroner Contra C )sta DATE: June 9, 1986 CO / SUBJECT: Amendment to the Police Services Contract with the City of Lafayette ` `l SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATIONI[S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION Approve and authorize the Sheriff-Coroner to execute the amendment to the Police Services contract between the City of Lafayette and Contra Costa County effective July 1, 1986. FINANCIAL IMPACT There is no detrimental financial impact to the County in executing the contract amendment. All services provided under the terms of the contract are paid by the City of Lafayette to the County. The amendment to the contract defines an increased level of service the Sheriff has agreed to supply the City of Lafayette for which the City of Lafayette has agreed to pay the County the actual cost for said increased services. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION The City of Lafayette wishes to increase its police services to maintain an adequate level of law enforcement programs. The Sheriff's Department is committed to providing Lafayette all personnel, materials and supplies, equipment, and support services necessary for Lafayette's law enforcement programs. BACKGROUND Lafayette has contracted with Contra Costa County for police services since July 1, 1969. The contract specified the County would provide, among other personnel and services, a Police Manager and ten- ( 10) Deputy Sheriffs. The Lafayette City Council has approved an increase in personnel effective April 1, 1986, as follows: One additional Deputy Sheriff. All other terms, obligations, general and special conditions of the police services contract with Lafayette remain intact. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION Failure to approve the contract amendment will result in the Sheriff being unable to supply the level of police services the City of Lafayette has requested, and could jeopardize continua- tion of the police services contract between Lafayette and the County. k:: CONTINUED ON ATTACHMENT; YES SIGNATURE; L RECOMMENDATION OF COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR RECOMMENDATION OF BOARD COMMITTEE APPROVE _ OTHER SIGNATURE(S): ACTION OF BOARD ON APPROVED AS RECOMMENDED X OTHER VOTE OF SUPERVISORS 1 HEREBY CERTIFY THAT THIS IS A TRUE UNANIMOUS (ABSENT AND CORRECT COPY OF AN ACTION TAKEN AYES: NOES.
