SUBJECT: Approval of Veterans Administration Amendment 426-023-28 with
Veterans Administration Medical Center
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute on behalf of the County, Veterans
Administration Amendment 426-023-28 with Veterans Administration Medical Center
effective June 1, 1986 to extend Contract 426-023-26 (effective April 1, 1985) for
an additional sixty days, with a, payment limit increase of $15,660, for the provi-
sion of nuclear medicine studies, specialized laboratory tests, and neurology con-
sultation and EEG interpretation.
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Approval of this amendment will result in an increase in the contract payment
limit of $15,660, from $109,620 to a new total payment limit of $125,280. This
payment limit increase only covers an extension of time and does not reflect a rate
increase. The services provided under this contract are billable to patients and
appropriate third party payors.
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND:
For many years the County has maintained a contractual relationship with the
Martinez Veterans Administration Medical Center which has provided specialized
laboratory testing services for County's patients at Merrithew Memorial Hospital.
The Hospital does not have the resources, equipment, or personnel to provide these
services to its patients.
On May 71, 1985, the Board approved Contract 426-023-26 with Veterans
Administration Medical Center for specialized testing (nuclear medicine studies)
and on-call neurology consultation services for the period from April '1, 1985
through March 31, 1986, and on April 26, 1986, the Board approved Veterans
Administration Amendment #26-023-27 which extended the contract for sixty days
through May 312 1986. The purpose of this amendment is to extend the contract for
another sixty days through July 31, 1986 to allow additional time for the Federal
General Services Administration to provide new rates and for the Department to
negotiate a new contract with the Veterans Administration.
This document has been approved by the Department's Contracts and Grants
Administrator in accordance with the guidelines approved by the Board's Order of
December 1, 1981 (Guidelines for contract preparation and processing, Health
Services Department) .
