DATE: July 31, 1985 County
SUBJECT: Approval of Standard Agreement 29-208-26 with the State Department of Health
Services for the Immunization Assistance Program
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize the Chairwoman to execute on behalf of the County, Standard
Agreement 29-208-26 with State Department of Health Services in the amount of
$37,044 for the period July 1, 1985 - June 30, 1986 for the Immunization Assistance
Program.
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Approval of this agreement by the State will result in $37,044 of State funding for
the Immunization Assistance Program. Approximately $5,000 of County funding is
required for office supplies, printing and mailing costs included under Public
Health's general Immunization Program funds for this State mandated program. No
appropriation adjustment is needed.
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND:
On April 9, 1985, the Board authorized submission of an application to the State
Department of Health Services for continuation of the Immunization Assistance
Program operated by the Public Health Division of the Health Services Department.
The County maintains this program to make immunizations available to all persons in
need of this service in order to prevent the occurrence and transmission of
childhood diseases . The program will continue to monitor the compliance of
preschools, elementary and secondary schools in meeting State-mandated immunization
requirements through inservice programs and limited technical assistance. Program
staff also maintain an adverse reaction monitoring system and outbreak control
team. This contract must be maintained in order for the County to continue to
receive free vaccine from the State.
The Board Chairwoman should sign eight copies of the contract, seven of which
should then be returned to the Contracts and Grants Unit for submission to State
Department of Health Services.
This document has been approved by the Department's Contracts and Grants
Administrator in accordance with the guidelines approved by the Board's Order of
December 1, 1981 (Guidelines for contract preparation and processing, Health
Services Department).
