HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 07301985 - X.12 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA July 30, 1985 b the following vote: Adopted this Order on - -- - Y 9 AYES: Supervisor Powers , McPeak, Torlakson and Fanden NOES: None ABSENT: Supervisor Schroder ABSTAIN:None RESOLUTION NO. 85/444 SUBJECT: COMMENDING THE CONTRA COSTA CHAPTER OF THE JAPANESE AMERICAN CITIZENS LEAGUE UPON ITS FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY WHEREAS the Contra Costa Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League was organized in April of 1935, five years after the founding of the National Japanese American Citizens League; and 14HEREAS the Contra Costa Chapter mainly centered its activities in the Japanese American Communities in the Martinez and Concord area in its formative years but'.since World War II reorganized with its membership mainly in the Richmond, E1 Cerrito and San Pablo- area as well as East Contra Costa County; 'and WHEREAS the Contra Costa Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League serves the local Japanese American community and has actively worked to achieve equality for all Japanese Americans; and WHEREAS the Contra Costa Chapter has expanded its endeavors to attain equal opportunities for all Asian Americans ; and WHEREAS remedial legislation supported by the Japanese American Citizens League has resulted in the repeal of the Asian Land Law and has enabled Japanese Issei to become naturalized citizens ; and WHEREAS the Japanese American Citizens League is continuing its endeavors toward passage of redress legislation to compensate Japanese Americans who, in 1942, were forcibly removed from their West Coast homes and who were placed in detention camps; and WHEREAS the Contra Costa Chapter's local activities also include programs emphasizing their cultural heritage with special .programs for the elderly Issei as well as programs which provide scholarships for third and fourth generation Japanese Americans; and WHEREAS the Contra Costa Chapter further serves the community by its active Participation i.n the Richmond-Shimada Friendship. Program; and WHEREAS the Contra Costa Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League will celebrate its Fiftieth Anniversary at a special banquet at the Mira Vista Country Club on September 7,1985; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County that the Contra Costa Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League be congratulated and commended for its endeavors in behalf of Japanese Americans and Asian Americans; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors does wish the Contra Costa Chapter continued success in its efforts and fulfillment of its desire for equality for all Americans.
