THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
Adopted this Order on September 18, 1984 , by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Powers , Fanden , McPeak , Torlakson
NOES: None
ABSENT: Supervisor Schroder
ABSTAIN: None
SUBJECT: Swimming Pool Fencing Ordinance
The Board received a letter dated September 10, 1984 from
Donald C . Burns , Executive Director , California Spa and Pool Industry
Energy, Codes and Legislative Council , 1121 L Street , Suite 500,
Sacramento 95814 , requesting further discussion of the Swimming Pool
Fencing Ordinance , 84-33, in order to clarify interpretation of Section
718-4 . 306, subsection (b) pertaining to alarm systems .
Mr . Burns appeared before the Board this date and requested
that the implementation of Ordinance 84-33 be delayed and that the
Ordinance be referred back to the Internal Operations Committee for
further review of the aforesaid subsection . He stated that in the
opinion of the members of the pool industry, the interpretation by the
Director of Building Inspection is contrary to the meaning and intent
of this subsection . He informed the Board that said interpretation
would serve to eliminate the alarm system alternative entirely , since
there are no products available that could meet this interpretation .
Board members discussed. the matter and were in agreement
to review the issues as stated .
IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the Swimming Pool Fencing
Ordinance is REFERRED to the Internal Operations Committee (Supervisors
Powers and Fanden) for further review.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the issue of delaying date of
implementation of the Ordinance is REFERRED to County Counsel and the
Director of Building Inspection for review and recommendation .
