HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 09111984 - 2.1 TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS FROM: PHIL BATCHELOR Contra County Administrator Costa DA7 E: August 24, 1984 County SUBJECT: PROCEDURE FOR APPROVAL OF REWARDS IN CRIMINAL CASES SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION Recommendations: 1. The Board of Supervisors will consider rewards in criminal cases of great seriousness and notoriety, involving threats to public safety,. and in which the reward has significant potential to result in successful apprehension and prosecution. 2. Requests for rewards in such cases shall be referred to the County Administrator for recommendation, based upon consultation with the District Attorney and the Sheriff's Department as to the need for such reward. Background: This report was prepared pursuant to your July 10, 1984 Order. From time to time, your Board has issued rewards in criminal cases. Your approval of such rewards has been relatively infrequent and has involved cases of serious criminality, public notoriety, and grave threat to public safety. The intent of such rewards is to assist in the successful apprehension and prosecution of such cases and the removal of convicted offenders from the community. It is the recommendation of this Office that rewards be considered only in these types of cases and that any requests for rewards be referred to this Office for recommendation based upon consultation with the Sheriff's Department and District Attorney's Office. Both of these departments support the above recommendations.
