SUBJECT: Respiratory Care Shift Differential
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
ADOPT Resolution 2007/ 44 , APPROVE Side Letter of Agreement between the County and Public Employees
Union, Local One granting ric ise of the night shift differential from 5%to 10% for the classifications of Respiratory
Care Practitioner I (VIWA) and Respiratory Care Practitioner II (VIVA)who work the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift.
The above night shift differential is effective August 1, 2007.
BACKGROUND:
Due to the Inability to fill night shift positions, we have proposed that the differential for this shift be increased from 5%to
10% effective on August 1, 2007, for the Respiratory Care Practitioner I and II classifications and shift referenced above.
This increase should enable the current vacancies to be filled, and an appropriate staffing level to be maintained. Terms
and conditions of shift differential remain unchanged per Section 10- Shift Differential of the current Memorandum of
Understanding.
This is a non-precedent setting agreement. Any similar action would be considered on a case-by case basis.

BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, in its capacity as
governing Board of the County of Contra Costa and all districts of which it is ex-officio
governing Board, hereby grants APPROVAL of the Side Letter of Agreement between Contra
Costa County and Public Employees Union, Local One.
The Side Letter of Agreement grants the increase of the night shift differential from 5% to 10%
for the classifications of Respiratory Care Practitioner I (VIWA) and Respiratory Care
Practitioner II (VIVA) who work the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift.

Dear Mr.Katz:
This will confirm the discussion that took place,July 25,2007, at our Meet and Confer regarding the night shift differential for
the following Respiratory Care classifications and shift at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center(CCRMC): Respiratory
Care Practitioner I(VIWA)and Respiratory Care Practitioner II(VIVA)who work the l fpm to lam shift. ,
