RECOMMENDATION
ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No 20394 to increase the hours of one Librarian (3AWA-represented)
position from 20/40 to 40/40 for the Hercules Library.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The annual cost for this action is $33,744 with no net county cost. This cost is included in the Library 2007-
2008 budget.
BACKGROUND:
The Library is requesting to increase the hotdrs of position #12993 to meet the level of service at the Hercules
Library. Since the new Hercules Library opened in November 2006, public use has increased significantly,
attracting many users throughout the west' region to its large collection, many computers, and weekend
operating hours. The Library serves a large population of after-school students. The Librarian position is
responsible for conducting regular programs for preschool, daycare, and childcare and collaborating with care
providers to create and deliver programs for parents on developing early literacy skills in their children.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this action is not approved, the Department will not have adequate staffing to provide services at the
Hercules Library.
