THE VASCO ROAD SAFETY TASK FORCE
WHEREAS,The Vasco Road Safety Task Force was formed in 2003 by the Contin Costa County Board of Supervisors to address the much required
need for increased safety and awareness among travelers on Vasco Road;mid
WHEREAS, The Vasco Road Safety Task Force includes the following supporters:, State Senator Tom Torlakson, Congressman George Miller,
Congressman Jerry McNemey,Assemblyman District 15, Contra Costa County District III Supervisor(Nfilhe Greenberg and Mary Nejedly
Piepino), Contra Costa County District V Supervisor Federal Glover, Alameda County Supervisor District I Scott Haggerty, California
Highway Patrol - Contra Costa and tllameda Divisions, City of Brentwood, City of Brentwood Public Works Department, City of
Brentwood Police Department, Contra Costa County Public Works Deparhnent, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District, City of
Livermore, City of Livermore Police Department, Alameda Comity Public Works Agency, City of Oakley, Contra Costa County
Transportation Authority, mid eastern Contra Costa County Residents Jeff tlltman,Annette Beckstrand,Al De Grande,Dave Wahl,David

WHEREAS,The Vasco Road Safety Task Force andContra Costa County m t"ugttst of 2003, completed the signage and striping needed for aerial
enforcement requested by the Califonva•Higliwa'y"Patrol fiom WalrmtrBouilevard t'o Contra Costa County Line. Additionally,the Task Force
worked with Contra Costa County to add'double yellow line`s indncaing napassing.zones n various locations along Vasco Road;and
WHEREAS The Vasco Road Safety Task Force,wrthrtlne assistance ofSenator':Tom lo`dakson tlnrough)Senate Bill 802,made Vasco Road eligible for

coordinating bettyeen the City-of Brentwood, City of Oakley, City of Livermore,Alameda CountyCaltrans, California Highway Patrol and
East Contra Cosfa Count,Fire Protection District(ECCCFPD)staff;and`
WHEREAS,The Vasco Road Safety Task Force and Contra Costa,County installed median vernca delineators as well asinedrain and shoulder nimble
strips for a one mile test sedion'ii October 2004,and `
WHEREAS,The Vasco Road Safety Task Force,and Contra Costa County,ul*'Apa 2004,completed'the installation of the Active Feedback Speed
Signage,wlnrcln alert'drivers of'tlierr current driving„speeds.Improvements to the Vasco Road and CaninoDiablo Road intersection were

WHEREAS,The Vasco Road Safetv;Task Force-and_the California Highway Patrol reported in 2007,that traffic-safety has improved significantly on
Vasco Road Nvitln vujtuy trlf6c°c6lhsi6ris'beung,reduced by more then 65 percent';und notraffic fatalities chrring the year 2007 and to date in
2008;and

WHEREAS,TVasco asco Road Safety Improvement Project is Contra.Costa Co mty'sttop pnont}!,for federal finding requests. Contra Costa County
has $8 million available for the Safety Project wliicl involves die extension of a,`pa5siing land and installation of a median barrier,wllcln also
requt res w Berl ng the road for approximately 2.5 Holes mnd'uviderni ng two bridges over Brushy Creek,ata total estimated cost of$38 million;

NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS honors the Vasco
Road Safety Task Force and its members for their hard work and dedication for safety improvements made to Vasco Road mid for all of the
contributions made to far eastenn C:utra.Co a Comity communiti atndthe residents pf Contra Costa County.
