In the Matter of Natural
gas within Contra. Costa RESOLUTION NOx
County. 1 49 1
WHEREAS, the California State Public Utilities Commission has
scheduled an investigation into the entire natural gas situation in
California (known as Case No . 7132); and
WHEREAS, this investigation will cover such matters as the
production, storage, conservation, reserves, transportation, trans-
mission, and sale of natural gas in California; and
WHETS, Contra, Costa County is positively known to possess
valuable deposits of natural gas, and more exploration for natural
gas is proceeding in many parts of the county; and
WHEREAS, many owners of this natural ga.s in Contra Costa.
County have not received marketing assurances from gas distribu-
tion utilities; and
WHEREAS, under the present condition, whereby many natural
gas wells in this region are shut--in and not producing, Contra
Costa County may be deprived of considerable tax revenues and its
citizens of a healthier economic climate,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
of the County of Contra Costa convey to the California Public
Utilities Commission, when it opens hearings on this matter in San
Francisco, December 13, 1961, the concern of Contra Costa. County
and its desire that no recommendation be made by the California
Public Utilities Commission adversely affecting the marketing and
production of natural gas within Contra Costa. County; and
BE IT FURTHER .RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the
County of Contra Costa flatly opposes any change in the public
Utilities Act permitting the California. Public Utilities Commission
to regulate the production of natural gas at the wellhead; and
BE IT STILL FURTHER RESOLVED that Supervisor T. J. Coll,
Vice-Chairman, Board. of Supervisors, E. F. Wanaka, Assistant County
Assessor, and John P. Hansen, Public Works Department, are auth-
orized and directed to appear at the aforesaid California Public
Utilities Commission hearing to make known the policy of this Board.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 12th day of December, 1961, by the
following vote of the Board:

Thomas John Coll., Edmund A . Linscheid,
Joseph S . Silva .
