HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 10172007 - RES-362 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Resolution Urging Observance of United RESOLUTION NO. 3 6 2' Nations Day. WHEREAS, the United Nations came into existence on October 24, 1945; and WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1947 passed an American sponsored resolution designating October 24 as United Nations Day; and WHEREAS, such resolution provided that October 24 should be dedicated to making known the purposes, principles and accomplishments of the United Nations; and WHEREAS, the United Nations is identified with the profound hope of the world peoples for peace, justice and freedom; and WHEREAS, the United Nations is of particular impor- tance at this time of increased world tensions; and WHEREAS, the President on May 22, 1961, issued a proclamation urging all federal, state and local government officials to observe Tuesday, October 24, 1961, as United Nations Day; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Contra Costa County will observe United Nations Day on October 24, 1961, by the display of the United Nations flag at county buildings; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby urge all citizens to engage in appropriate observance of United Nations Day. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 10th day of October, 1961, by the following vote of the Board. AYES. Supervisors James F . Kenny, Mel F. Nielsen, Thomas John Coll, Edmund A. Linscheid, Joseph S . Silva.
