RESOLUTION NO. 2 3 7 WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Centra Costa County is concerned with the level of property taxes in Contra Casts. County; and WHEREAS, approximately one-half of the property taxes levied in Contra Costa County are required to support the public schools; and WHEREAS, the school districts of Contra Costa County received a total of $824,256 in Federal funds during the 1960- 1961 fiscal year under Public Law 874, an amount which would otherwise have had to be raised out of property taxes; and WHEREAS, Public Laws 815 and 874 provide Federal reim- bursement for the costs of schooling children of parents who work on Federal installations which are exempt from local taxa- tion; and WHEREAS, local property taxpayers will be required to carry a heavy additional property tax burden if the provisions of Public Laws 815 and 874 are not Mended; and WHEREAS, Federal financial assistance under Public Lags 815 and 874 expired on June 30, 1961; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County hereby requests and urges re-enactment of provisions of Public Laws 815 and 874 -- Federal "in lieu" payments for "impacted" school districts; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolu- tion shall be forwarded to United States Senator Thomas H. Kuchel, United States Senator Clair Engle, and Congressman John F. Baldwin. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 8th day of August, 1961, by the following vete of the Board: AYES: Supervisors James P.
