Standby for Fire Fighting } RESOLUTION 10. 2
Personnel of Certain Fire
Protection Districts.
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County,
State of California, on April 12, 1960, ordered that a ,study be
made of recall procedures in the fire service, and
WHEREAS, this study reveals that it is prevailing practice
in the fire service to require standby status as a condition of em-
ployment without additional compensation., and
WHEREAS, it is also prevailing practice in the fire service
to compensate firemen under certain circumstances when they are
called to service from standby- or day off, and
WAS, on January 31, 1961, this Beard approved a reso-
lution providing for payment to fire district employees under con-
ditions of emergency call back,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that compensation is not
approved for standby but that compensation is approved, effective
August 1, 1961s whenever the appointing authority of anyone of the
following fire protection districts determines that it is necessary
to call back to duty a fire district employee who is either on
standby or on a day off. The employee will be compensated at the
hourly equivalent of the basic rate of pay for this classification,
the minimum credit for any single call back being two hours. The
hourly equivalent shall be obtained by use of the following formula•
monthly base rate times 12 divided by the number of hours regularly
scheduled per week times 52. Districts affected by this resolution
are Central, Mt. Diablo, Orinda, Mt, View, San Pablo, El Sobrante,
and .Eastern Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in accordance with county
policy- excluding from the payment of premium compensation certain
management positions, the classes of Fire Chief, Assistant Fire
Chief, and .Fire Marshal are excluded from the provisions of this
resolution, except where persons in these classes are on a shift
basis and subject to regular standby and call back.
