HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 10172007 - RES-200 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY., STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of RIESOLUTIQN NO. 2 0 0 Endorsing S. 1130. WHEREAS, the special difficulties in making basic health services available to migratory farm workers and their families are well-known and documented; and WHEREAS, many of these workers do not have legal resi- dence in any state and, therefore, the Federal Government shares with the states the responsibility for working toward a solution of this complex health problem; and WHEREAS, the County of Contra Costa has initiated action to alleviate this condition to the limited extent to which this can be done on a local basis; and WHEREAS, the California Legislature has made a beginning by enacting State Legislation (SB-282) carrying a modest appro- priation for initiating local programs and demonstrations, which legislation has been signed by Governor Brown May, 1961; and WHEREAS, this State Legislation received the support of the California .Farm Bureau Federation, California State Grange, California Medical Association, California State Dental Associ- ation, the Dental Association of Southern California, California Congress of Parents and Teachers, and other concerned groups; and WHEREAS, the funds made available under SB-282 will under- write only the extended farm labor health programs which eleven California agricultural counties launched July 1, 1961 for four months; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THIS BOARD RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County hereby endorses S. 1130, which recognizes Federal, responsibility in this urgent national health problem by providing funds and consultative ser- vices to interested states and communities through the United States Public Health Service; and BE IT ALSO RESOLVED that this Board go on record as urg- ing immediate attention to the passage of S. 1130 in order to con- tinue the already approved local extension of existing health ser- vices which began in California counties on July 10 1961, and which it is hoped will be funded by United States Public Health Service funds under S. 1130 after state funds are exhausted on October 31, 1961; and RESOLUTION No. 200 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution shall be forwarded to United States Senator Thomas H. Kuchel, United States Senator Clair Engle, and Congressman John F. Baldwin. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 11th day of July, 19610 by the fol- lowing vote of the Board. AYES: Supervisors Fames P. Kenny, Mel F. Nielsen, Thomas John Coll, Joseph S. Silva. NOES: None. ABSENT: Supervisor Edmund A. Linscheid. 204
