issuance of a John Muir RESOLUTION NO. 6 0
memorial stamp.
WHEREAS, John Muir was a renowned naturalist and con-
servationist, and
WHEREAS, John Muir served his country and the world
through his writings and his nature studies; and
WHEREAS, he contributed materially to the establish-
ment of the national park system and to the conservation of the
nation's natural resources; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his efforts his name has
been used to designate many streets, parks, schools and forests
throughout the nation; and
WHEREAS, during his life John Muir was for many years
a resident of Contra Costa County; and
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors
believes that the accomplishments of John Muir should be recog-
nized by the issuance of a commemorative stamp;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa
County Beard of Supervisors endorses the issuance of a John
Muir memorial stamp; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Board urges Congress-
man John F. Baldwin to initiate action to accomplish the issu-
ance' of a John Muir commemorative stamp prior to July, 1962.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 5th day of June, 1961, by the
following vote of the Board:
AYES: Supervisors James P. Kenny, Mel F. Nielsen,
Thomas John Coll, Edmund A. Linscheid, Joseph
S. Silva.
