In the Matter of
County Participation in the National )
"Hire Now" Program ) Resolution 120
YJHER.EAS, the economy of the County of Contra Costa, the State of California,
and the United States of America, now appears to be moving toward recovery from
the recent recession, and
WHEREAS, in the said County of Contra Costa, and throughout the nation,
there still remains a substantial residue of employable workers who have not
yet been offered opportunity to return to employment from which they were
separated several months ago because of the affect of the said economic reces-
sion, and
WHEREAS, it is vital to the economic health and prosperity of County, State,
and nation that these unemployed be returned to gainful employment at the earliest
possible date, and
WHEREAS, at the present time, under the leadership of the President of the
United States, a national program is being organized with the title "Hire Prow",
through which employers across the nation are being urged to expedite plans for
plant and/or production expansion as a practical approach to accelerating the
nation's economic recovery and expansion, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County believes it to be
the duty of every member of the community to offer active support to the "Hire Now"
program,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra
Costa County does hereby offer endorsement of the "Hire Now" program and urges all
groups and individuals in Contra Costa County to work diligently toward imple-
mentation of the said "Hire Now" grogram and the full achievement of its objectives,
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County
establish a County Commission on Reemployment for the express purpose of marshalling
and coordinating the total effort of the community toward the realization of the
above mentioned objectives of the "Hire Now" program, and
BE IT FURTHER?. RESOLVED that said Commission on Reemployment small consist
of twenty-five members to be selected by the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa
County with appropriate representation from such groups as the County's Industrial
Associations, organized labor, the Conference of Mayors, the State Department of
Employment, County governmental agencies, the press, men's and women's clubs,
churches, education and others, and
BE Tr FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution shall be distributed
to officials, agencies, groups, and individuals as directed by the Board of
Supervisors.
The foregoing resolution was adopted by the following vote of the Board:
ACES: Supervisors James P. Kenny, Thomas Jahn Coll End Joseph
S . Silva.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Supervisors diel F. Nielsen and Edmund A. Linscheid.
