HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011961 - RES-074 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Support of Senate Joint Resolution 36 of the California Legislature, which bill urges Congressional RESOLUTION r o. 7 4 appropriations for the Office of Saline Water of the United States Department of the Interior. WHEREAS, it is this Board's opinion that the improve- ment of sea and brackish water conversion processes is not only of extreme importance to the welfare of the State of California, but of vital necessity to the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta; and WHEREAS, adequate salinity control within the Delta re- quires a substantial amount of "flushing water" be permitted to flow out of the Delta; and WHEREAS, the political and engineering pressures to ex- port such "flushing waters" to Southern California and San Joaquin Valley have been the force behind the development of several plans proposing these exportations and, at the same time, attempt to provide a fresh water supply for the Delta; and WHEREAS, all plans proffered to date represent a seri- ous detriment to the ultimate development of the Delta; and WHEREAS, it is this Board' s considered opinion that the only mutual agreeable solution to the Statets water supply prob- lems may well be accomplished through the economically developed necessary amounts of water by means of salt water conversion pro- cesses, and accordingly which would make the exportation of water from the Delta unnecessary; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Board takes a posi- tion in vigorous support of Senate Joint Resolution 36, which resolution is now receiving the attention of the California State Legislature. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 2nd day of May, 1961, by the following vote of the Board: AYES; Supervisors James P. Kenny, Mel F . Nielsen, Thomas John Coll, Edmund A. Linscheid, Joseph S. Silva.
