HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 10172007 - CHECKME (85) IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Proclaiming ) April 29, 1964 as JOHN MUIR ) RESOLUTION NO. 2930 STAMP DAY. ) WHEREAS John Muir, the great American naturalist and writer, made his home in the County of Contra Costa during much of his lifetime and now rests in a gravesite in the County close by the City of Martinez ; and WHEREAS through his efforts beautiful expanses have been preserved so that this and future generations may enjoy in their natural state mountains, valleys, forests, and streams in California and elsewhere ; and WHEREAS his accomplishments are being recognized at the federal, state and local government levels through action to preserve his former home located in the City of Martinez and by the issuance on April 29, 1964 by the United States Post Office Department of a commemorative stamp in his honor; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THIS BOARD OF SUPERVISORS RESOLVED THAT Wednesday, April 29, 1964 is proclaimed JOHN MUIR STAMP DAY throughout the County of Contra Costa and that govern- ment agencies and officials, community organizations, schools , industrialists , merchants , union groups, civic leaders , and the general public are called upon to celebrate this day by appro- priate means and to participate in ceremonies conducted to acclaim the achievements of the great John Muir. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 14th day of April, 1964, by the following vote of the Board : AYES : Supervisors James P. Kenny, Mel F. Nielsen, Thomas John Coll, Joseph S. Silva, Edmund A. Linscheid .
