HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012005 - 2005-642 RESOLUTION=HONORING THE RESOLUTION NO. 2005/642 LAFAYETTE ARTS AND SCIENCE FOUNDATION ON THEIR 25TH ANNIVERSARY WHEREAS, in 1980 Lafayette citizens with vision,;,believed strongly in the need and;value'of the arts in education and founded the Lafayette Arts and Science Foundation (LAST); and WHEREAS, Last year LASF raised $1`;000,000 donated by parents, organizations, matching gifts and the business community. The idea was to create a private and independent organization to save arts and science by hiring independent arts and science teachers; and WHEREAS, it took a great deal of public relations to convince both classroom teachers and administrators that non-credentialed, but highly qualified artists could effectively provide a substantial arts:and science education for the students. LASF instructors fulfill the California state curriculum requirements and meet the benchmarks and standards for the arts; and WHEREAS, LASF's art program provides students with the.opportunity to understand, interpret and appreciate the visual arts, art history and, terltial through hands-on art projects.
