HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012005 - 2005-578 • gVd& gWAM* V/ RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING RESOLUTION NO. 2005/578 SEPTEMBER 26r, 2005 AS FAMILY DAY, A DAY TO EAT DINNER WITH YOUR CHILDREN WHEREAS, substance abuse constitutes one of the greatest threats to the well-being of America's children; and WHEREAS, surveys conducted by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University have consistently found that the more often children and teenagerseat dinner with their families the less likely they are to smoke, drink and use illegal drugs; and WHEREAS, teenagers who virtually never eat dinner with their families are 72 percent more likely than the average teenager to use illegal drugs, alcohol and cigarettes; and WHEREAS, teenagers who almost always eat dinner with their families are 31 percent less likely than the average teenager to use illegal drug% al%c ho'[end cigarettes; and WHEREAS, the correlation between farbtl irtrtets and reduced for teen substance abuse are well°°documented; and WHEREAS, parental'-.lnfiuer�oe i known to be one of the most crucial factors irt"40*mining the likelihood of substance abu"e'by'teenagers, family dinners have long constltut substantial pillar of family life in Amenq,$, NOW, THEREFORE 04T RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra0- W aunty does hereby proclaim >0ifiber 26 2005, as AzDay'T.b.Eat Dinner With Your Child, n PASSED by a unanimous vote of the Board of Supervisors this 3t' d of Se tember, 2006.
