RESOLUTION No . 71/ 739 Resolution Establishing Policy On Equestrian Crossing Signs and Markings The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors Resolves THAT A. Pursuant to Vehicle Code Section 21805 , local authori - ties may designate any intersection of a highway and a bridle path or equestrian crossing by erecting on the highway at or near the approach to the intersection appropriate signs and markings to safeguard both the vehicular traffic and any equestrian at the crossing, and thereafter the driver of any vehicle shall yield the right of way to any horseback rider crossing the roadway where such signs have been posted. The County of Contra Costa may, upon investigation , designate, install and mark , at County expense, equestrian cross- ings in accordance with Section 21805 where a Riding, and Hiking Trail' as established by the California Department of Parks and Recreation or; by a Regional Trails Council crosses a County- maintained road. B. The Board of Supervisors may , upon requests of private individuals or organizations , and after investigation and receipt of favorable recommendations of the Public Works Director, designate a private horse crossing of a County-maintained road under' the following conditions : 1 . Pursuant to County Ordinance Code Sec. 7500`, the applicant must obtain, and comply with , an encroachment permit from the Public Works Department. 2 . Equestrian Crossing signs shall be furnished', in- stalled and maintained at the expense of the applicant. Installation will be by County Forces and the applicant shall deposit with the County a sum of money to be determined by the Public Works Director which will reimburse the County for labor , material and equipment costs . 3 If at any time the Public Works Director finds a sign installation or marking , or any part thereof, to be dilapi - dated' or improperly installed, he will notify owner or remove same to the premises of the owner. Any defective parts must be repaired or replaced before the sign is again installed. RESOLUTION NO. 71/789 4. Under highly unusual circumstances the Public Works Director may recommend to the Board of Supervisors that any in- applicable provisions of this policy be waived. PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 23rd day of lloveririber, 1971 by the following vote of the Board: AYES : SUPerViaors A. M. Dias, J. E. Moriarty, W. N. Boggess, E . A. Linacheid, J. P. Kenny. NOES : None.
