HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01312003 - 99-453 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Honoring the BLUE DEVILS ON THEIR ) TENTH WORLD ) RESOLUTION NO. 99, 453 CHAMPIONSHIP ) WHEREAS, THE BLUE -DEVILS organization has served over 5,000 youth since its founding in 1957; and WHEREAS, THE BLUE DEVILS offer a learning and performance experience through nine Programs for young people, ages four to twenty-one, teaching them the value of competitive excellence through the discipline of the arts; and WHEREAS, THE BLUE DEVILS are the most decorated drum and bugle corps in the Drum Cords International twenty-eight year history, holding four more World Championship titles than their closest competitors; and WHEREAS, THE BLUE DEVILS Drum & Bugle Corps have captured a history making tenth World Championship award; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors honors THE BLUE DEVILS on their 1 Or' World Championship and wishes them continued success. By Deputy Clerk Introduced �y Supervisor Mark DeSaulnier, District IV Resolution 99/453 Claaol6Pulhe� • � ��owtm Vnsra J &%& ol��aklo4we.;71 IN THE MATTER DECLARING RESOLUTION NO. 99/452 OCTOBER AS "BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH" IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY ` IIEREAS, breast cancer is a devastating public health crisis, the most common cancer among women and the second leading cause of cancer death for women in the U.S. and California; and WHEREAS, women in Contra Costa have the second highest incidence of breast cancer in the state. Contra Costa's breast cancer rate is the highest in the state among Hispanics, second highest among Asian women and third highest among African American women; and WHEREAS, early detection --- through clinical breast examinations and mammograms --- is the best way to improve a woman's chances for survival against breast cancer; WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Breast Cancer Partnership is a coalition formed by community -based organizations, breast cancer survivors, advocates, health care providers and county agencies to make breast cancer screening a community priority; WHEREAS, the Partnership would like to honor the special efforts of community organizations to educate and raise awareness of low income and underserved women about the importance of breast health check-ups; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby proclaim the month of October, 1999 as "Breast Cancer Awareness Month."
