HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01312003 - 99-373 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION NO. 99/373 WHEREAS, there are an estimated 250,000 homeless veterans in the United States of America on any night of the year, and WHEREAS,there are as many as 7,000 homeless veterans in the greater San Francisco Bay Area and as many as 15,000 homeless veterans in Northern California, and WHEREAS,there are many more veterans who are marginally employed and are unaware of or unable to access services which are available to them to better their lives, and WHEREAS, the community services agencies and veteran service organizations of the Sari Francisco Bay Area under the leadership of the Vietnam Veterans of Diablo Valley, the East Bay offices of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Vet Centers and Operation Dignity have come together to provide services to these honorably discharged veterans and their families, and WHEREAS,this provision of service will take place in Alameda County in the City of Dublin at Camp Parks of the U.S.Army with the support of local U.S.Army Reserve Units and the Regional Training Site-Medical (RTS MED), and This event, called the East Bay Stand Down for needy and homeless veterans will take place on September 30, 1999 through October 3, 1999 and serve 400 veterans and their families. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT BYTHE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS RESOLVED THAT THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA endorses this event and recognize the worthwhile efforts to aid those men and women who served their country but have fallen on hard times, and Let it further be RESOLVED that the County of Contra Costa recognizes the caring work of the Vietnam Veterans of Diablo Valley and all the other organizations, agencies and volunteers involved in this worthwhile effort, and finally Let it be stated and resolved to the needed and homeless veterans who will attend this event,that the County of Contra Costa recognizes and thanks you for your service to our country and supports your efforts at the East Bay Stand Down to break free of the needy and homeless plight in which you have found yourself.
