In the Matter of Resolution No. 97/606
Recognizing Jason Richards
On Attaining the Rank
Of Eagle Scout
WHEREAS, Jason Richards is an 18 year old student who graduated from Liberty High School in
Brentwood in 1997 and is currently attending Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill;and
WHEREAS,Jason has been involved in scouting since an early age,and is a member of Boy Scout Troop
93 in Brentwood,California,a troop sponsored by the United Methodists Men's Group and the Veterans of Foreign
Wars, and
WHEREAS, Jason has worked long and hard to meet the requirements necessary to achieve the rank of
Eagle Scout;and
WHEREAS, in his quest to attain the Eagle Scout rank,Jason undertook a project which involved the re-
roofing of the barn at the Logger's Ranch located in Black Diamond Mines Regional Park in Antioch;and
WHEREAS,the Logger's Ranch at Black Diamond involves the preservation of an old cattle weigh station,
and is a part of the overall preservation program being undertaken by East Bay Regional Park District at Black
Diamond; and
WHEREAS, in order to achieve successful completion of this project Jason estimated the total cost of the
roofing project and solicited the donation and discounting of the materials necessary from local lumber companies
such as Big B Lumber and Piedmont Lumber Companies;and
WHEREAS, in order to complete this project, it was necessary for Jason to coordinate with the East Bay
Regional Park District,with the special assistance of Ranger Roger Epperson,as well as soliciting and coordinating
the efforts of fellow Scouts, neighbors,friends and family, resulting in over 170 hours being spent coward this effort;
and
WHEREAS,Jason will be honored at a National Eagle Court of Honor on Sunday, November 16, 1997.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa,
California,does hereby commend Jason on the successful completion of this very worthy project,and his attaining
the rank of Eagle Scout.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 4th day of November, 1997.
