In the Matter of Resolution No. 971564
Declaring December 13, 1997, as
"Holiday Run and Walk for Health"
in Contra Costa County
WHEREAS,the Holiday Run and Walk for Health, sponsored by the Delta Kiwanis to
benefit the Orin Allen Youth Rehabilitation Center and other organizations working with our
youth, will take place on Saturday, December 13, 1997,at the Sutter Delta Memorial Medical
Center; and
WHEREAS,the Holiday Run and Walk for Health was previously the Holiday Run and
Walk Against Drugs which was endorsed by the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors as a
drug-free activity for youth and families in the Contra Costa Countywide Drug and Alcohol
Action Plan (A Partnership for a Drug Free Contra Costa County); and
WHEREAS,this event is entering its 21 st year and has been expanded to include a
Health Faire to provide for a greater opportunity to renew our commitment to healthy living,
fitness and fighting substance abuse; and
WHEREAS, fighting substance abuse is not simply a one-time, one week battle. The
ravages of drug and alcohol abuse,the risks that exist for all our families and friends present us
with year-round challenges; and
WHEREAS, this promotion of healthy living is another significant effort in the battle
against substance abuse and the promotion of self-esteem in our young people; and
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED, that the Contra Costa County Board of
Supervisors does hereby declare December 13, 1997, as"Holiday Run and Walk for Health" in
Contra Costa County and urges citizens, cities, schools, community organizations, businesses
and governmental agencies to participate in this activity to strongly declare our county's
commitment to fight substance abuse and promote a drug-free and a healthy lifestyle.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 28th day of
October, 1997.

minutes of the said Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
