HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 10211997 - 97-551 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Declaring November 1997 ).as HOMELESS AWARENESS MONTH ) RESOLUTION NO. 971 551 in Contra Costa County ) WHEREAS, the number of people who are without permanent affordable housing or who are at risk of losing their housing has increased significantly over the last decade; and WHEREAS,families make up approximately one-third of the homeless population, one homeless person in four is a child, and veterans comprise one-quarter to one-half of homeless people who often have full-time employment but-do not make enough to pay for housing; and , WHEREAS, Contra Costa County and many non-profit agencies within the county are dedicated to providing relief for homeless.people and to finding ways to eliminate and to prevent homelessness, and - - - WHEREAS,public education about the critical needs of homeless people and participation in the public and private programs that assist them are essential to ending_homelessness; and _ WHEREAS, we recognize the tremendous accomplishments of those individuals and families who have overcome barriers to end their homelessness; and WHEREAS, we also recognize the dedication and commitment of public employees, private agency staff, volunteers, and community members at large who generously give of themselves to help the homeless. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declares November 1997 as HOMELESS AWARENESS MONTH in Contra Costa County and urges all citizens to help end homelessness.
