HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 10171995 - 95-523 (3) `TO: ' Y' BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Contra >, c FROM: /..� Costa MARK FINUCANE, HEALTH SERVICES DIRECTOR County DATE: October 5, 1995 SUBJECT: PROTECTING YOUTH FROM THE IMPACT OF TOBACCO SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION IN THE MATTER OF PROTECTING RESOLUTION NO. 95/ 523 Youth From the Impact of Tobacco Whereas the rate of tobacco use among youth in Contra Costa County has remained unchanged and; Whereas school districts in Contra Costa County have established smoke-free polices AND; Whereas the state, the County and cities in Contra Costa County have enacted clean indoor air ordinances and: Whereas research indicates that advertising and easy access to tobacco influence young people to use tobacco and; Whereas most smokers begin using tobacco before age 19 and; Whereas tobacco-related deaths cause Contra Costa County $188 million annually and; Whereas Contra Costa County has provided leadership in addressing tobacco related issues; Now therefore be it resolved that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors supports the Food and Drug Administration's efforts to restrict youth access to tobacco and the impact of tobacco advertising on youth and; Be it further resolved that the Board of Supervisors calls on other cities,community organizations, youth, parents and all residents to lend their support to inoculating youth against the impact of tobacco.
