In the Matter of Naming a )
Section of Interstate 80 in ) RESOLUTION NO. 89/ 666
Honor of Linus F. Claeys )
WHEREAS, it is appropriate for the County to acknowledge and
honor its pioneer heritage; and
WHEREAS, it is also appropriate for the County to acknowledge
and honor its distinguished citizens; and
WHEREAS, the late LINUS F. CLAEYS was a descendant of a
pioneer Contra Costa County family; and
WHEREAS, the late LINUS F. CLAEYS was a distinguished rancher
and benefactor of education; and
WHEREAS, it has been suggested that an appropriate honor would
be to officially name the section of Interstate 80 from the
Carquinez Bridge to State Route 4 as the "LINUS F. CLAEYS Freeway" ;
and
WHEREAS, the original Claeys Ranch included the land in which
this section of Interstate 80 is located; and
WHEREAS, according to the California Department of
Transportation, no name has been given to this section of
Interstate 80.
BE IT RESOLVED that the Board RECOMMENDS that the section of
Interstate 80 between the Carquinez Bridge and State Route 4 be
named the "LINUS F. CLAEYS Freeway" ; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board Chair send a letter to
Senator Daniel E. Boatwright advising him of this resolution and
requesting his support in the recommended naming of Interstate 80
as discussed above.
PASSED AND ADOPTED on October 17, 1989, by a unanimous vote.
