Harb ) Resolution No. 88/694 on the Occasion of His Retirement ) From the First Orinda City Council ) WHEREAS Joseph Harb immigrated to America from Palestine with little more than pluck, determination and a mind for numbers; and WHEREAS Joseph Harb set up a successful accountancy firm, married his delightful wife, Marguerite, and raised their three fine children in Orinda; and WHEREAS Joseph Harb was elected to The Orinda Association's Board of Directors in 1974, and served as president in 1975; and WHEREAS Joseph Harb was appointed to the innovative Orinda Area Planning Commission in 1977 by Supervisor Schroder and sat on the Commission for eight years, two as chairman; and , WHEREAS Joseph Harb kept the books and guided the Citizens to Preserve Orinda on a sound financial track in the successful campaign to incorporate Orinda in 1985; and WHEREAS Joseph Harb sought and won election to the first Orinda City Council in 1985 and served as its second mayor; and WHEREAS Joseph Harb donned his green eyeshade to specialize in Orinda's early financial questions and deliberations, resulting in the City's substantial surplus for a rainy day or winter; and WHEREAS Joseph Harb is a spectacular American success story- entrepreneur, planner, civic volunteer, golfer and thoughtful elected official whose word is his bond. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California, hereby CONGRATULATES Joseph Harb on the completion of many years of distinguished public service, COMMENDS the generous donation of his time and skills to the betterment of Orinda and EXTENDS to Joseph Harb its best wishes for a pleasant retirement from elected public life. Passed and adopted on November 1, 1988, by unanimous vote of the Board members present. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a resolution entered in the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
