HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 10181988 - 88-659 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Declaring ) October 18, 1988 as Lane Kirkland ) RESOLUTION' NO. 88/659 Day in Contra Costa County ) For over 30 years, Lane Kirkland has carried the message of America' s labor movement to the public. As a veteran of World War II, and holder of a Bachelor of Science degree in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, he became a member of the research staff of the AFL and AFL-CIO, serving that body for 10 years. In 1960, he became executive assistant to President George Meany of the AFL-CIO, a post he held until his election as secretary- treasurer in 1969. He was elected president of the AFL-CIO without opposition in 1979. With an international reputation as a labor leader of integrity and effectiveness, Lane Kirkland continues his commitment to the causes of the labor movement throughout the world. We are honored and pleased to welcome Mr. Kirkland to our county. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors that October 18, 1988 is designated as Lane Kirkland Day in Contra Costa County.
