HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 10201987 - 87-618 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA In the Matter of: ) Honoring Tony Cannata ) Upon his Retirement. ) RESOLUTION NO. 87/618 WHEREAS Tony Cannata is retiring from his position of Secretary-Treasurer of the Contra Costa Central Labor Council AFL-CIO, a position he has held since first being elected in 1976; and WHEREAS Tony was born in Sicily and, at age 9, moved to Lorain, Ohio where he was raised and where he worked for United States Steel before being drafted into the U. S. Army during World War II, serving for four years, including one year in the South Pacific; and WHEREAS following military service he located in Pittsburg, California beginning a career with U. S. Steel Pittsburg Works, becoming a Journeyman Machinist and a member of Steelworkers Local #1440, holding several offices in that Local; and WHEREAS Tony Cannata served as International Staff Representative of the United Steelworkers Sub-District Three, was elected President of the Central Labor Council in 1962, and held that position until being elected to the full-time position of Secretary-Treasurer; and WHEREAS he has served his country, Contra Costa County, and organized labor with devotion and dedication for thirty years; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY RESOLVED that Tony Cannata is Honored on the occasion of his retirement from the Central Labor Council; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that October 23, 1987 is hereby declared Tony Cannata Day in Contra Costa County. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 20th day of October, 1987 .
