Increasing the Hours of a Half-Time MHTS Position to Full-Time for
Inpatient Childrens Services at County Hospital using new State Funding
provide the Psychiatric Inpatient Services that were designated when the 20/40
position #2048 was originally established by the Board on September 17, 1985.
In addition, this Childrens Specialist will also have total responsibility
for coordination for the Children's Program, will work as part of a team
with the ward psychiatrist and designated nursing staff, and will be
responsible for the psychiatric treatment of children on I, J and D Wards.
This MHTS will coordinate individual treatment and specialized groups .for
kids, conduct family counseling sessions, and represent children's mental
health services in the hospital and in the community and be an advocate -for
this population.
IV. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this recommendation is not approved, we will continue. to be unable to
provide adequate treatment for children. Without consistent treatment and
continuity of care, these children will not receive the appropriate and
necessary treatment while confined to our inpatient psychiatric wards.
Without a Childrens Specialist assigned to coordinate their care, some
children are in jeopardy of being hospitalized too long or of being
discharged prematurely.
